Hydro Flask Ad Champion

Original Ad Analysis:

hydroflask

I found this ad online, a site called HHSMiaNako. This ad was effective because of the use of color, placement of the ad content, the author said she believes the use of contrasting colors in the background was bold and nice to look at but it wasn’t too distracting to the main subject; the hydro flask since the hydro flask’s color was also very contrasting to the background. This AD immediately caught my attention because I thought it was so creative. Then I decided to do this ad.

Contrast

I like how she chose really different two pictures as the background. One is a volcano, the other an iceberg. The author makes clever use of the contrast between icebergs and volcanoes. The colors are also contrasting, but not too dramatic to draw attention to the background rather than the glass. I really like it.

Proximity

This part is amazing. I didn’t notice that the first time I saw it. When I took more time to look at it, I was amazed. The two pictures are a perfect match together. It’s very creative and it makes the background a little less obtrusive.

Color

The main colors in the picture are black, white and brown. They went really well together in this picture. I think It’s really interested to see the author chose to use the black Hydro Flask water bottle. We know there are so many different colors in Hydro Flask water bottle. Then I found out the black is the best color in between as a transfer color.

Typography

The type style is sans serif. There’s a lot of elements in the background, plus the cup in the middle of the picture, which is pretty full. The author chose not to have any serifs and thick/thin transition in the strokes. Also, she used different colors to show the contrast.

Design

Same idea, but I changed the background pictures to jungle and dessert. I want to show how the water bottle can hydrate our life. When I was picking my pictures, I deliberately chose some photos with some white space on the top of them. Also, the shapes are really similar.

Contrast

WechatIMG12

I chose the desert  and jungle to be my background. They are a pretty big contrast. One is really green and wet. However, the desert is really dry so you can feel a big difference.

Proximity

WechatIMG13

I did the same way for my background pictures. I matched them together. Also, the cap of this water bottle looks like a small mountain. I hope this helped them to combine together well.

Color

IMG_6714

I chose to use this big red Hydro Flask water bottle. Red, brown and green, I think they matched really well. I really want to show my focus is the water bottle, not something else.

Typography

I chose the sans serif style also. No serifs and thick/thin transition in the strokes which makes really simple and clear. I put the opposite colors on them also.

Conclusion

We used the same product, Hydro Flask water bottle. Same idea, but I changed to a different background. I want to show how this can hydrate our lives in different situations, so I chose the jungle and desert. The original one used volcano and iceberg. The messages we want to deliver are really similar.  That’s why they can work together for the same campaign.

This is a world tour Magazine spread layout I found online. I can’t find more information about the designer, but I really like this design, so I choose this spread layout for analysis.

magazine spread layout tapyfaces

The designer used Modern typefaces for the big title. We can see It has strong thick/thin transitions. We can see that there is a significant change in the size of the title letter, and I’ve circled the very thin ones. In the subtitle, capital T has really obvious serifs, which is a feature of old-style typefaces. The lower-case letters all have strong thick/thin transitions, and serifs on lowercase letters are slanted. Another subtitle also used the modern typeface. Although the author made the font very thin for the second subtitle, for comparison with the title, the difference in thickness can be seen. I circled them out also.

magazine spread layout constract

In this magazine spread layout, they used Modern and old-style typefaces. These two typefaces themselves are so different that you can see them at a glance. Also, the designer adjusted the thickness, font size, and color, make the difference between the two typefaces even starker.

magazine spread layout photo

The designer used 4 pictures in this spread layout, but we can only see two of them clearly. I marked them as picture 1 and 2. They both used depth in the field. Especially, the second one has some mountains in the front and some far away in the back. This magazine is about traveling, so the pictures really showed the audients the view of the places.

I took those pictures when I was in Hongkong, because this magazine is about traveling, and all the picture type is depth in the field. I feel it will be awesome If I can use those pictures I took before. The first one used depth in the field, the second one used one-third rule and the last one used liner.

The first picture with the river and sunrise can replace the picture on the left page of the layout. They both use the depth of the field and have sea or river in the picture. The second one can replace picture 2, it has mountains and sea around in the picture, so they are really similar. The third one can replace the left picture on the right page. They both have some buildings inside.

Ps. I don’t know if I can use the pictures that I took before, but if that’s not OK please let me know, I can take some pictures here in Rexburg.

Kiehl’s Advertisement Design Qualities

Kiehl’s Product Ad by Austin Eidson

This is an advertisement poster of Kiehl’s I found online. This poster is about  one of their product: Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Masque. Austin is a really cool designer, he post a lot of his designs online.

Alignment

He used centered alignment in this post. Even thought we think centered alignment often appears a little bit weak, in this poster, the center alignment is harmonious. Really simple and clear.

Proximity

This advertisement is very simple and easy to understand. The product to be promoted is placed in the middle, which is very eye-catching. Although no other advertising language was added, the introduction of the product itself was clear enough. The girls and flowers in the background pattern are close to the product concept. It is very attractive to female customers, which is also the market targeted by this product.
Repetition
The advertisement  uses a lot of repetition, but the trick is that each repetition looks similar but very different. The author uses it skillfully.
Contrast
The main point of this advertisement is symmetry. The background, flowers, girls and fruits are completely symmetrical. But not exactly the same design makes the AD less boring.
Colors
The background USES a lot of red and green colors for a natural and healthy feeling. The white of the intermediate product is highlighted along the way. The combination of red and green is very attractive. I really like how he use them.
In general, the color matching and contrast design of this advertisement are my favorite places. Very attractive, to achieve the purpose of making people want to buy. The elements of flowers, butterflies and maidens are very specific to the customer group, which is a good design.
